All you need is a little bit of lift to separate the magnet: I used a suction cup but tape works fine too. I removed my cover and am using my iMac "bare" -- the improvement is remarkable! But Apple should still offer a matte screen and do away with the stupid glare glossy screen. It's worse than their hockey puck mouse. I've recommended to all of my iMac using friends to remove the glare screen, I regret not removing mine when I first got it.
They are held in with magnets, a much nicer method (to your imac at least) would be to get a small suction cup (comes with gps's and such) and stick it to one of the top corners. gently pull that corner and there you go.
Thank you! I squished a tiny bug that I thought was on the outside of my iMac's screen, and then after smooshing him, I discovered that he was in the inside of the screen! I was wondering how I could take the screen off to remove his corpse. :)
