Lisa has Dercum's Disease and Severe Osteoarthritis. She has had both knees replaced and her spine fused. After her next 5 fusions, she will have even more surgeries to look forward to. Dercum's Disease is a rare disorder that causes multiple benign fatty growths. The disease is progressive and leaves her in constant pain. Medical cannabis has allowed her to drastically scale back her doses of OxyContin.

  • Thank you dlgirt.

There is research suggesting that the benefits of cannabis outweigh the harmful effects.

Researchers are suggesting that while it is true that cannabis contains carcinogens that can cause cancer, the healthful cannabinoids cancel these out - the healthful cannabinoids can actually retard cancer growth. One of our patients has told us that her tumor is shrinking now that she has found a steady supply of cannabis.

  • GW Pharmaceuticals developed Sativex for multiple sclerosis patients. Patients use it to alleviate neuropathic pain and spasticity. When we first started trying to pass this bill here in IL, the drug companies were some of our most vocal opponents. Now, they don't say a word. They seem to realize that cannabis works and that there will be a market for brands and strains after we stop harassing patients looking for relief.

  • Thank you for speaking frankly about pain and alternatives like this. As a chronic pain sufferer myself (possibly w/ Dercum's) and little relief from the usual narcotics this was a nice reminder that there are still other things to be tried. I believe anyone who suffers from the levels of pain we do that extremely high doses of narcotics can't relieve, legal or not no longer seems to matter much. It becomes more about whether you want to live a life worth living and enjoy your family.

  • Thank you, Lisa, for sharing your story about Dercum's. I Have taken synthetic THC (Cesamet) for the past year in an attempt to deal with dercum's. My symptoms and pain levels have improved. The growth of new lipomas has tapered off ass well, though I am not sure why. Only time will tell if this is a long term viable solution. I hope your struggle with dercum's becomes easier.

  • I'm so glad you put this out there. I have multiple painful lipomas. The Doctors don't want to call it Dercums, but I think it is. I take Oxycondone right now, which may go into stronger stuff as the pain worsens and the lipomas multiply and grow. I don't even like taking that. You are opening a door that needs to be opened for us sufferers. Thank you.

  • Ican.

  • i love your story. it shoves those cannabis hates up against a wall

  • Very brave woman.

  • hello.i must say your video is excellent.

  • I just wanted to say ty for sharing. If only people would wake up, its about healing! I know many people that would benefit from the medical use of MJ.But I also wanted to point out that the video "What Marijuana Leaves In Your Lung" is amusing. But it hurts the issue rather than helps. The FACT is that we know that inhaling smoke from anything that burns is going to be somewhat toxic. We have multiple ways of using cannabis w/out burning it:Vaporization,Ingestion,Tinctures
