Except for the flaws in the VIC-20 and the 1540 and 1541 drives require a handshake after every BIT transfered. Although accelerator make this faster by changing it to handshake after every byte or so.

well, the IIc appeared 2 years later, so it would be stupid if it would have any less ... On a sidenote: The C64 can go as high as 512kb with "typical" hardware or 16MB with more modern addons.
