The detail for such an old fashioned game is bizarre.

I hated this part so much. You have to run so far with that that thing, and know exactly where you're going. Like anything else, it's not so hard once you've done it a few times, but it's a very unforgiving challenge to be sure.

Happened to me too. I finally managed to plant the bomb inside the tunnel (I had mistakenly been putting down the alien cube, not the bomb itself all this time) but as I was running outside I get caught in the blast and the game crashes on me.

VERY frustrating.

Gah the hardest part of the game. Though for me, I make it to the entrance and as soon as I go down a step the bomb explodes and then Bioforge lovingly crashes from some memory error (Yes I am running this in DOSbox).

You ever had that happen to you during the end part with escaping after placing the bomb?
