Eastman Kodak Company, the American firm that popularized photography and brought it into the reach of ordinary citizens has filed for bankruptcy protection. In the 131 years since its formation, the world of photography has changed in ways Kodak founder George Eastman would not have imagined. Average mobile phones come with decent enough cameras, and point and shoot digital devices are all the craze now. In the US like in Kenya, hardly anyone takes the trouble to take professional photographs, develop and print. I took some time to take a snap shot of this new age of photography.
The problem is that people were suckered in buying into a product that will need continuous replacement as it become obsolete. Just like computers televisions, cell phones etc...as the landfills are filled our pockets are emptied all for what? I recently purchased a "real" camera, mamiya 645 1000s...uhh f**ing WOW! my digital is in my sock drawer now lol!

nothing can replace film quality... all professionals know this.
working example; i have a friend who sets up a shoot using a digital cam for the lighting and such and then uses a manual nikon with film for the final quality... and in truth, unless you can do a great shoot on a manual using film and then take it to the studio to develope it, then you are not really a photographer
the company just needs to get out of the common market and target professionals who still use film

Relax, times are not that dark, stop the hype man. Talk to the better galleries about the rising value of a hand made print, not some computer generated garbage. Then, attend Look3 / Festival of the Photograph in Virginia this year, lots of great work, great photographers and lots of work shot on film. I shoot both film and digital, always will, because I am not just another guy with a camera shooting pictures of leaves, I am a real photographer.

The irony is that Kodak itself is facing bankruptcy and wants to sell some of its patents to stay afloat.
