  • why the hell are you going out to sea if you're going to vegas??

  • All takeoffs take you out to the ocean, this makes a flight to Las Vegas a little bit longer since the pilot has to make a turn after about 5 minutes in the air.

  • LAX is practically right on the beach, and the runways run east to west. The pilot has no choice in which direction to take off, has to go the way the tower tells them to. Taking off to the west means going over the beach, circling around to avoid crossing the inbound LAX air traffic on the east side, then turn toward true destination. An oversimplification, but that's why. Hope it helps. Cheers.

  • @Bellhorn25 Due to noise poulution they do that

  • great video

  • Yes, I only flew out of LAX heading East once. The overwhelming majority vector traffic out over the ocean to clear inbound descent into the LA basin into LAX which can be an awesome approach in viewing the massive sprawl of Los Angeles metro if you're lucky enough to have a very clear day. Going out over the ocean gives you the perspective of seeing our second largest city right on the coast. Consider the view a treat of flying out of LA before you turn east to other cities unless it's Asia.

  • @soldier2330 i know what you mean. I remember my first airplane flight. It was from LAX and it was going to Dallas Ft. Worth, TX and we flew over the ocean for awhile. I was like wtf? lol. I wasn't any geography major but I knew Texas wasn't in that direction lol. We were over the ocean for some time before the pilot turned around and headed back over land. I didn't know the layout of LAX (relative to the ocean and the direction to take during takeoff).

  • @planeofthesky Get use to it and enjoy them!

  • I flew from LAX to Salt Lake City Utah and we flew over the ocean too lol I was like, "are we on the right flight?"

  • It's a bit annoying when 2 or 4 Southwest Airlines planes fly over my house :P

  • Announcement just after 1:52 (not audible):

"This is your Captain, I think we'll continue to fly to Hawaii."

  • @rania3830 That's Philly for ya'! (And I can say that since I'm from Philly!!)
