This is the final song from our first gig as Mele Polinahe in Spokane, Washington Nov. 1, 2009. "Aloha 'Oe" is probably the most famous Hawaiian song and it is still very beautiful and poetic for being over a century old. And it still carries heavy "mana" (spiritual power) in its lyrics and melody. Mele Polinahe is Jesse Tinsley on uke/vocals, Steve Riggan on steel/uke, Kevin Jones on guitar/bass.

  • Very nice Jesse. Just one quick note, the Queen was in fact married. She was married to John Dominis. THe current governor's mansion on O'ahu was originally the house belonging to the Queen's mother-in-law.

  • Thank you or pointing this out. I have researched it now and will correct it in future descriptions.

  • You did honor to the Queen's mele. Good job Jesse and band-mates. Always makes me want to cry.

    Me ke aloha,

    Wanda

  • I think of it as a sad song, too, but it has many aspects to it.

  • I love it, too. And the steel guitar gives it the sweetness it requires.
