This bloke is a complete and utter tit.

The reason this fish looks different to smaller ones is because it *is* a different species. They're not dealing with one species, they're dealing with at least two, and it is the smaller, red bellied variety that is decimating aquatic vegetation. But then, he's just a low IQ angler, and by no means an authority of the living organisms he drags out of their natural environment by hooking them.

I live in North Carolina. Charlotte to be exact and in my neighborhood there is a pond used for dranage. I went fishing there to see if there where any fish in the pond. Turns out there are. Mostly Bass and Bluegill. I was bluegill fishing with a small hook and white bread when suddenly i felt a strike and I knew it wasn't a bluegill, it was way too strong to be one. when i landed this fish it was a Pacu! It was a red bellied pacu with the same kind of fins and teeth. Explanation? Foreign fish?

@andrewnyynyj Pacu are very popular as pets here in the states. Sometimes people illegally release them into the wild when they grow too big and/or no longer wants it. You should notify Fish and Wildlife Services and the like if at all possible.

@Mantisman630 True, but nowhere near enough to validate the suggestion that Colosomma bidens - which is really the archetypal red-bellied pacu - is the same species as the black pacu (Colossoma macropomum). In C. bidens, variation is really all about how extensive and bright the red is in the throat and ventral region, and in C. macropomum, how extensive and dark the black pigmentation is.
