My heart goes out to you. My son, Gage, will be going tomorrow to have his decannulation after having his trach for 10+ years. I am so sorry for your loss.

I can't help but wonder if his life would have been prolonged if the trach wasn't taken out. Did they take it out too soon?

@becausethenight1 Not exactly. Everything pointed to Tommy being ready, however, he got bronchopneumonia a few days later and the trach was put back in. Trach or no trach, he would have died. Thanks for the concern. I know with every fiber of my being that everything was done right for my son.

how is tommy doing after the trach was taken out ?

Tommy had many other issues besides the trach including lung damage and congenital heart defects. Sadly, Tommy passed away unexpectedly on August 20, 2008, just 9 days after his decannulation.
