Gene Autry sang so many songs that were popular of the time, like Blueberry Hill, El Rancho Grande Maria Elena.

Charlie

That was the classic guy loses girl forever scene. The priest was played by William Farnum, a famous silent screen actor. June Storey played the blonde heroine. The title song was written by two English men who had never been to America, but apparently had seen enough Autry pictures to depict the image in song. Autry heard the song while touring Europe, bought the rights and came back to make the film. This was at the height of his fame in 1939
