  • @knockersmctaggart Sorry, YouTube doesn't allow websites in the comments section. It drives me crazy. Just copy the address to the address bar of your browse, and then replace the [dot] with a period.

  • so do we have to walk around with the mixer? Sorry for being thick, but that was not clearly explained

    I presume after you go through the process shown in this vid, you can detach the camera from the mixer and shoot video with good audio level. Am I correct. ?

    Of course there still is the matter of synchronizing the sound with the vid.

  • @alanbstard4 Actually, no ... You do walk around with the mixer. You can get a small mixer (Juicedlink) that attaches to the camera, if you prefer.

    And the benefit of it is that you don't have to synchronize the sound with the video, because it's already on the camera. The alternate approach is to use a standalone audio recorder, in which case you do have to sync it later.

  • 4:20 Analog gain controls how much raw signal is coming into the circut. Therefore raising the gain increases the wanted signal compared to the noise. Digital gain is effectively post production. It has to mathematically amplifiy the signal along with any noise already in the signal. Plus, the mathematical process adds a little error, which will show up as more noise if you do further amplification. Generally the trick is to amplify as few times as possible. Otherwise excellent advice :D

  • @5DFilmSchool If you compare the quality of for example Audio thru a Juicelink to the camera, and the audio to an H4n or Tascam. How bad is the audio compression in camera ? I do interviews, nothing mayor, and everything who save me time in post will be my choice. Thank you so much for sharing!

  • I'd stay away from stringing multiple connectors together since every adaptor degrades quality and adds noise. Single cables the way to go

  • I find that Alex can be a little vague with his descriptions. I tried several times to go to magic lantern to down load unsuccessfully. It also warns that this could damage your camera which Alex neglected to mention.

    I am sure Alex knows what he is talking about but I feel he should be a little clearer in his explanations so that some of us who are not as savvy at this can understand.
