the best solution in that quest is to collect the ectoplasm from the ghosts in Anvil. There is that nice little quest to do in that manor. Make it, and you'll get an almost free home + 5+ ectoplasms!

This reminds me of an old RPG called Legends of Valor, back around 90 or 91. There was a quest where you had to go to a pub, drink 6 gin and tonics, and then make your way back to the guildhouse before the effect wore off. All the houses were swaying and the ground kept rising up and hitting you in the face, and the graphics kept going out of focus. Lots of fun.
