I live in Minnesota. My uncle would have been on that bridge if the bridge wasn't closed. :') He saw it happen too!!! :( *CRIES*

This bridge collapse was caused by human error Either Engineering design, material quality, inspection standards, inadequate allowance temperature changes or other factors caused this error. It is not acceptable. A freak occurrence? NO An unsafe situation waiting to happen?. Yes Correcting USA bridges will cost billions. We can not exist without bridges. 40 years old exposure to weather and corrosive road salt in the winter. Budget cuts since 2001 at FHA and NTSB = half the civil engineers & inspectors staff laid off since then.
