Creating the NYT Bestseller List

I bet the ghost of William Randolf Hearst haunts me tonight. I know he didn't really have anything to do with the NYT, but he seems like the type to haunt people.

Also, for what it's worth-- this is the info I've collected from sources I think are reliable. BUT...the List is a labyrinth of info. I suspect there's far more to it than this, and wouldn't even swear on THIS info with my life. It's just a collection of the random things I've heard from people on the list/editors. So...no betting all my worldly possessions on it, capiche?

x'D Seeing the sentence: "written by the NY times best selling author.." has sadly kind of lost its impact on me as a reader, since you pretty much see it on every cover.. ever. At least I feel like that's the case. Actually, NOT seeing it would be much more interesting to me.
