Some Cinecam footage my grandfather took in the early 1960's of some climbers in the quarry at the Cow and Calf rocks in Ilkley, Yorkshire. Check out what looks like some interesting belaying at 18s!

  • Amazing video..i went here tonight, at 2.30 am with my uncle & 3 cousins,we left the car in car park & walked upto the top, it was pitch black at first but after a short while your eyes adjust to the dark & we could see a bit, very scary place at night, but v.thrilling, we went right on to the top up the foot holes and onto the edge of the calf, the view at night is unbelievable and we used our mobiles to read some of the names carved in, the oldest we seen 2nite was by a man from LEEDS in 1893!

  • @tammyonelove Nice, Always good to get out on grit, even at 2:30am?! I've only played a bit here bouldering etc with some non climber mates but it has its own vibe having had so many people go there for so long. Thanks for appreciating !

I take my hat off to these folks, THIS IS THE BEST FOOTAGE ive seen of this great place, it connects with so many people in so many ways. I am fortunate i live close to it. These rocks tell a great story of Yorkshire when u read all the names carved over centuries through so many generations, people came from far & away, a remarkable history - thank you for sharing!

  • This is a great piece of climbing history to watch, especially for me as I spend so many hours climbing the same pieces of rock as these guys. Thanks a lot for sharing!
