On Point Book Review. I don't believe the similarities between Vampire Diaries, by LJ Smith, and the Twilight Saga, by Stephenie Meyer are coincidental, so I"m spitting Venom - again. Both stories are wriiten by women: both feature teenage vampires in high school falling in love; both introduce a werewolf element at a certain point. So which came first? The wildly popular Twilight series, or the lesser known Vampire Diaries. LJ Smith or Stephanie Meyers?

  • first of all if you dont get the third person writing there i something wrong with you cuz i am 16 i understood LJ. smith's writing it was clear. i think that stephanie copyed the plot and hers is a more simple plot/writing. i find smiths writing/plot to be better i just finished reading the first book of VD and im hooked and want to keep reading im actually goin to buy the 2cond book. i have read all of the twilight books and im Vimpire diaries all the way. i agree with u dude

  • The next book in the Vampire Diaries was scheduled for release this month. I have to check to see if it was released yet. Thanks for commenting.

  • I think first person narrative always beats third person narrative. First person in Twilight was extremely understandable where the third person in VD was a bit confusing, and I got quickly annoyed by the fact that every sentence in TVD series began with a sustantive( he, she, his, her, they), literally every word. Even though it was not original, Twilight was WAY better.

  • Good point. Thanks for commenting.

  • no i dont think there are any similarities between TVD and twilight. and i think TVD is old fashioned and boring. twilight si very captivating than TVD

  • @happymcluffly Ignore the end of that comment ^_^; I just realised that you already know you made that mistake. I just get fed up with number of times people accuse L.J. Smith of copying Stephenie Meyer and it's not just with The Vampire Diaries: They're accusing The Secret Circle (published 1992) and Night World (published 1996-98) of being Twilight copies too *face palm*

  • Ever thought of checking the copyright page on the inside of a book? If you did then you would know that there is no way in a billion years that The Vampire Diaries books by L.J. Smith are ever a copy of the Twilight books :| Why? Because everyone who knows all about both of these book series, will know that The Vampire Diaries books were first published in 1991, meaning that they are at least 12-14 years older than Twilight :/ So, unless L.J. Smith has a time machine, you are WRONG :P

  • @RAMPAGE222555, You just said 3rd person narrative confuses you because of the 'They, she, he'.You have a low level reading ability, nearly remedial.

  • The vampire diaries is an awsome set of books. I finished midnight on da 18 of march. It was sooooo gud nd i cried so much at 1point tht i had 2 stop readin for a second. Itz 2 bad tht she isnt writin any more afta midnight cuz da endin was a cliff hanger 2me

  • i can see how she may have been influenced by her to a piont but think about it isn't most of the vampire books out there about a self hating vamp guy that falls for the humman girl im not saying there all like thet but a good # of them are

  • They're both good writers, but do you believe that Stephenie Meyer was influenced by LJ Smith?
