Bud was one of those players who definitely got better with age. I just loved how he started changing his sound being more agressive with the growls,etc.
One of my first sax heroes and influences. Had his own "sound".

I played alto sax, but gave it up when I heard him play the way sax should be played.

I started collecting jazz records in the late 50's. I am the proud owner of many of Bud's albums. I play alto and used Bud as an early influence.

Not many people know this, but Shank is featured on a live Frank Zappa album, and he sounds right in place with Frank's band.
