@ohmss006 hi, that was - otherwise than in hollywood - a new way of montage: the intellectual montage. that means, eisenstein stopped the continuity of the narration and showed different pictures (without any obvious connection to the previous part of the story) of "interpretations of what/who god is." it's poetical and he asks the question: if this all is god - what means god after all? the pictures were not really connected between the shots - and that was a challenge for the public

Keeping in mind this was largely a soviet propaganda film (no disrespect to Eisenstein, but it is, as is Potempkin), this montage attempts to show how religion only served to maintain the status quo held by tyrants and Tzars. To free the masses from religion is to free them from tyranny.
The initial montage is simply pointing out that all gods are *created by man* as a tool of control. Then, the statue re-forming shows the result; the continuation of dictatorial rule.
