I think Ethics should be apart of the curriculum for any school rather than an alternative for religious education.

It's ironic that I feel like saying "thank god for ethics classes". Now we can finally dump "Special" Religious Education ;)

As a teacher I don't think that scripture should be taught in schools. A lot of parents are also under the wrong assumption about scripture, so here are some facts.
A) It is not taught by a qualified teacher but by a member of a church.
B) Yor child does not have to attend such classes, by law the school should provide other supervised activities for children whose parents have elected them not to attend.
& C) They really push the Christian values onto students

if you say that ethics come hand in hand with religion then clearly you have never read huckleberry finn. or have ever heard of slavery.

God is a fucking stalker.

@orangepicklesquink Why does there have to be a compromise at all? Although an aussie I live in the USA - the most religious of western democracies. There's not a snowball's chance in hell that scripture would ever be taught in a public school here. Why should it be taught in public schools in Australia? If people want their kids to have religious teachings take them to their church or temple or whatever. Religion should be a private matter and not something for schools to get involved in.

Yay Australia. As an aussie living in the USA I can tell you the chances of this level of irreverence for religion appearing on a peak hour tv show in the USA are close to zero. Someone would be mightily offended if they did and heads would roll.
