  • this is a tutorial about how to spend money! -.-"'

BEGINNING photographers only need 1) the camera.. 2) the SD card.

tripod and flash are for intermediates and pros><

  • I wouldn't recommend spending on a external flash, tripod or a better bag until you get serious with it..Or at least become a serious hobbyist.. A nice starter dslr kit w/the addition of a 50mm 1.4/1.8 will get you very far..

  • the memory card is as important as the camera. I got a PNY professional card but its awful for video and shooting RAW, spends a bit more and Go with San Disk Extremes with at least 30mbs write speed.

  • Hey Michael, What about straps? Can you recommend a good strap that doesn't dig into my neck like the one that came with my camera?

  • @kitchenknives nah. just buy more batteries instead

  • I disagree If one has gone to the expense of purchasing a DSLR then they bought it to take great photos. You can't take great photos with the on board flash. Buy a flash and shoot it off camera.

Of course this only applies to those who bought a DSLR and aren't afraid to take it off Automatic. If that applies....save the cash and buy a point and shoot.

  • @Mz59Fifty

Agreed! Or at least you should put it off until you know exactly what you are going to shoot. Does not really make much sense to buy external flash when you do landscapes and stuff...

  • Don't for get a UV filter so you can leave the lens cap off forever!

  • for lens cleaning, i would not recommend using any liquid or alcohol (tend to damage the glass more than anything)... what you should do is breath on the glass and wipe with the microfiber cloth... that has worked really well for me.

  • How about those battery grip? is that necessary?
