As part of Global Youth Service Day on April 24, 2009, junior high and high school students in Southold, New York, volunteered their time to plant hibiscus, wash tractors and pick up litter on Charnews Farm. The 23-acre tract of land and buildings, newly-preserved by the Peconic Land Trust, have remained virtually unchanged since the farm's creation on the North Fork of Long Island in 1889.
