Dickie Peterson, bassist and vocalist of Blue Cheer (one of the most legendary and influential power trios), has passed away at the age of 63, October 12, 2009.

Blue Cheer is best known for their hit cover of Eddie Cochran's Summertime Blues. They were the first to lay the foundations essential to all heavy metal genres. Today their influence is best heard in the Stoner/Doom Metal subgenre. But nevertheless Dickie Peterson and Blue Cheer's influence is broad and everlasting. So here's my tribute to the best of the best...Dickie Peterson.

He will never be forgotten.
R.I.P. Dickie

  • my 1st and most enduring influence

  • This whole side of the LP is a friggin trip!!!

  • Peace of Mind is my all-time favorite Blue Cheer song. Since i first heard it way back in the early '70s I've picked it on my guitar when I'm feeling blue. RIP Dickie.

  • 2009 was one of the biggest years ever for celebrity deaths--at least Petersen's was important in the "metal community". North Dakota's favorite son, besides Lawrence Welk, he was the "prototype" of the "singing bass player" in a power trio. Dickie's style gave us Budgie's Burke Shelley and Rush's Geddy Lee. Lemmy from Motorhead gets in their somewhere, but his voice was more gruff and didn't have that same shrill rebel whine that Dickie, Geddy, and Burke had

  • When I bought Blue Cheer's first album my mother knew i was going to hell and said as much. I still have the album and the cd as well This music will never get old i still listen to it today R.I.P Dick Peterson you will be missed.

  • Wow I did not know he passed until just now! What another major loss to music. Thx. R.I.P. 'Dickie'. Thanks for all the memorys n music.
