@0ptimusbibIe Such a cutting edge question. This idea of celebrities in this deen will take those who subscribe to such notions. There will always be a select few who avoid this. But, I feel it is a culture which is being injected into our Muslim society (here in the west) from other Muslim Societies. It is a culture in other parts of the world to celebrate those with knowledge but this is growing here. I hope this answers your questions.
