Lucy, our 5 month old Green Wing Macaw knows exactly where her cage is... and will walk there from anywhere in the house. You can also visit my blog and read about our parrots and stuff http://birdsong5521.blogspot.com/

  • I love Lucy! She is so well behaved and allways seems so calm. How do green wings compare to the other large macaws?

If you dont mind me asking, what kindof cage is that? Looks very roomy

  • I find Green Wings to be smart and have good dispositions. I'd say the only drawback in the first year is VOLUME. It seems that Lucy's VOLUME button is stuck on the all-the-way-up position every morning and evening! We're working on that! Lucy's cage is from A&E Cages. It's too big for our house, but not for Lucy. LOL. With a wingspan like her's, a big cage is required.

  • @BirdSong5521

Ive always heard that green wings are more laid back and tend to be quieter so im suprised to hear thats not the case with Lucy. Then again every bird is unique. Do you think its only the first year or will it just be something you just have to work on?

  • @skyranch05 Right now, Lucy only says "hello". Usually when a new toy is introduced, or when she see her reflection. [see video on that]. early in the morning, say 6am, she lets out 5-7 full-on full-volume screeches. Then, only a few throughout the day, getting more vocal near sunset. She doesn't make the near constant vocalizations of say our CAG Gracie, but she is by far the loudest member of the flock when she lets one out. I can hear her from the driveway when I get home!

  • LOL The "clapping" is a sound effect that I couldn't resist on my MAC when I was editing the video. Just my corny sense of humor, nothing more.

  • Is Lucy flying yet?

  • No not yet as her full flight feathers were clipped back previously. She "perch flaps" and glides down to the floor to play or walk over to me... but that is it so far. I am considering if we should let her become fully flighted in the future. A couple of safety considerations to think about in our home.

  • She is gorgeous! My macaw does the same thing, but he always goes upstairs to the toy room, where we have tons of toys for the birds. Very pretty bird.

  • whats that clapping at the end?

  • would just like to add, gorgous bird and yes she is about 5 months old (mandible colour) your training is going very well. i have to work on step down with mine, he dont like going back in (22 weeks old) but is an amazing bird when sitting with us, stig has full flight and has flown a few times, but normally its either chaotic and i have to catch him, or on short flights he will fly to me from the wife or vice versa which is only a few foot. arnt they the most amazing animals/pets/companions?
