All of the marines were HEAVILY modeled off the Aliens marines. Carnosaur has it's own equivalent of a Hicks, a Hudson, and even a Vasquez.
The whole movie has an Aliensy vibe, especially any scene with the raptors attacking. Even the cover says "Put Aliens and Jurassic Park in a blender and this is what you get!"

It's not so much that "the black guy" dies in this film; almost EVERYONE dies in this film.
As I remember, there's only like two survivors. The Hicks rip-off marine, and the blond researcher.
