The Brown and Brian Poole and the Tremolo's had big hits with it in the UK but Ray Charles puts a special touch that only he could. Thanks for posting this.

The Brown's little brother "Jimmy" was killed when he was a boy . I'm sure this is one of the main reasons they recorded the song, as a tribute to him. Ray did an excellant job covering the song

The Browns had a #1 hit with it in 1959.

Thank you so much for sharing this. One of Ray's most beautiful recordings. Such a lovely song, brilliantly simple and touching.

I remember this song from circa 1960, never knew Ray sang it.
What was the guy's name that recorded it back then?

I first heard this song by a french group The Companions of Song sung acapella with a beautiful french accent. With napster I found that Edith Piaf sung it in french and english and in the USof A it was a C&W song sung by the browns , Ray and others.I found it on Ray's complete C&W collection. Some of these are on Youtube
