To tymjr, you are so right. That same year I drummed backing up Baby Laurence using brushes. As you know, but perhaps the others do not, brushing along with a master dancer like Baby Laurence requires you "dance" with your drums along with him. The funny part of that session is that Papa Jo Jones was in the audience and he ran up and grabbed me by the shoulderes and demanded I go to his studio the next day and he taught me for the next few years. Those were grand days.

Miles Davis said them and Buddy Briggs,The Step Bros and others (LD,Laffy, Fred and Sledge) used to talk about Fred Astaire like he wasn't nothing and how no could hold a candle to them....sad that heroin got some of 'em...All those tap dancers used to come uptown and steal their moves and go back downtown with them...Sophie Tucker took from Ethel Waters...etc

"Baby Laurence" along with "Groundhog", & "The Nicholas Brothers" were the best dancers in history.
