As the inaugural recipient of the San Francisco International Film Festival's Golden Gate Persistence of Vision Award in 1997, surrealist Czech animator Svankmajer contemplates the name and nature of the honor. The crowd delights when the filmmaker receives a message from an old friend.

  • the translater sucks ,i love svankmajer

  • so...i have some problems to understand the man on švankmajer's right

  • This man has made perhaps the best film ever: FAUST. Try to get it. His ALICE is also fabulous, likewise LITTLE OTIK, FOOD, CONSPIRATORS OF PLEASURE....he is truly counter-cultural, one of the few cinematic geniuses, and I'm amazed he hasn't been assassinated by the CIA or Department of Homeland Security.

  • I love Svankmajer, but I can't even understand the translator.

  • just genius...

  • me love him!

  • That was terrific.

Thanks so much for posting it.

Really refreshing and funny, especially watching the translator.
