Simone Muscolino (Id-Lab)
MongoPalace
Architecture by Marco Navarra NOWA

Country: Italy
Year: 2008
Duration: 7'10''

MongoPalace is about a project by Marco Navarra (NOWA) for an experimental plant-system for the conversion of trash into clean energy. The video is composed using stop-motion animation, a technique on which the author, Simone Muscolino, has worked for years. The video takes on a comic approach in which the protagonist, Marco Navarra, is dressed up to look different and interpret a slapstick story telling of his personal project adventure. The video is composed using images shot in the studio and with animated 3-D models that were inserted within the video-frames. A musical comment by Andrea Gattico conveys the comical style of the short, enhancing it with unexpected and effective sound effects.

All along involved in anything revolving around the world of video, Simone Muscolino graduated in architecture from the Polytechnic in Turin. Since 2001 he has been collaborating with Eduardo Arroyo's No.Mad Arquitectura and has curated and realized, together with Francesco Monaco, a number of short films for the studio. After a 2-year experience as audiovisual postproduction manager with an advertising company, Simone joined e1 (exhibition unit) at the Interaction Design Institute in Ivrea as audiovisual production manager. Besides following video production, Simone works as a designer. Currently he is involved in the activities of Idlab, Interaction Design Lab, a studio where he is partner and video department manager.
