I've always loved the Georgia accent.

Hi,
Can I use this method to prune overgrown helleri holly. They're now about 4' tall and have bare trunk and limbs from the ground up about 3' and they look AWFUL!!!
All the leaves are on the top! I just haven't known how to make them shorter without killing them. I love your video. I'm going to watch some more! Linda
P.S. I'm in Baton Rouge, LA. Love your accent.

@LSUTigerMom ... heehee.. Glad you like the accent! and YES ma'am, this type of pocket pruning is recommended..but it takes a couple years to look great..You can do the hard "shock-n-awe" pruning in February, that some people do. But i would only cut them half way down if you do that... So it will be a personal preference. Just feed them after pruning in Feb...

Those look like Felco Pruners. I use Felco 2, they are a must have for every gardener. There are some very old Boxwood plants on our island, believe it or not some are over 15'ft in height and decades old. They have been let go and are in desperate need of a trim.

@bj616 ... Felcos are my favorite, but these are the orange handled ones in the vid...
Sounds like yall have the American Boxwood which gets huge!! Take your time and prune them down over the course of 3 or 4 years. Feed them with some cotton meal and then add 1/4 cup epsom salt to a gallon of water. put the gallon on each boxwood. they love it! Good luck!
