Cloning is a good idea in technical terms but would never work in practice because of the balance of nature. There's a reason animals weren't meant to be cloned as they would often prove to be sterile, DNA mutations, and overall just unable to survive for very long.

If people weren't such babies about cloning, then we'd probably be able to get rid of the endangered species list.
