Sukhoi Superjet 100 crash site: Close-up footage of debris

The Search and Rescue team has located the debris of the crashed Sukhoi Superjet 100 on the mountainside in Bogor, West Java, Indonesia. Two rescue helicopters have reached the site and are using nets to collect the bodies of the victims. The Russian Sukhoi Superjet-100 crashed into Mount Salak, a volcano, during a demonstration on May 9, presumably killing all the 45 people on board.

It looks like a human mistake, according to preliminary reports. The airplane is excellent. Before this crash Sukhoi was in talks with german and spanish buyers. I hope they go ahead. No pre-crash order has been cancelled. The Superjet 100 and the future streteched version will do very well.

Well, try this: pilot flying in unfamiliar territory, known for its "rock-lined clouds" (West Java) asks permission to descend from 10 thou to six thou. The volcano, large and very visible, is over 7 thousand feet tall.

If it hadn't been some smart-ass ex-military jet jockey showing off he might have been a tad more cautious, diving into the fog / smog normally cloaking Gunung Salak (it's only truly visible before 07.00, most days).
