Many of the hundreds of Madison East High School students didn't know why their teachers brought them to the union protests at the Wisconsin Capitol Tuesday.

But they knew they were just happy to be out of class.

See this raw video from today's government union rally in opposition to Governor Scott Walker's budget repair bill.

  • @jtkeri Are you denying that there have been deep cuts to education? State school aid was cut by $834 million (from Madison.com). "Collective bargaining rights" refers to the rights of employees to bargain with their employer over pay and working conditions. My teachers generally work hard to give me and all of their students a quality education. The belief that they are societal leeches is just plain wrong. Your claims might be taken more seriously if you made any attempt to back them up.

  • @MrLesondak See... this is actually part of the problem. You seem to have been told that there were "deep cuts to education". You also seem to know nothing about what "collective bargaining rights" actually means for a public sector union. The reality is, the teachers have failed you completely. Curiously enough, the failure happens to be in their personal interests... curious how that works.

  • @MrLesondak i go there too and the teachers didnt really stop it tho lol

  • I am a student from Madison East High School and I walked out last year to protest Scott Walkers restrictions on collective bargaining rights and his deep cuts to education. The same goes for everybody I know who walked out. I know of no teachers who encouraged people to walk out and no teachers "brought" students downtown. They all stayed at school. So how about people stop cherrypicking to obscure the truth.

  • Actually I do. While I'm doing it, my pay goes to pay others that do it, as well. Some more of my check goes to the teachers, who do a half-ass job, get summers off, and teach our kids that even if you fail, you get a trophy. The teachers are failing, yet we still give them a trophy. No more.

  • @stkt1986 I'm sure you dont "earn" your money by sweating, risking your life, or dedicating yourself to the community for less than money than the private sector gets.

  • @cbasallie In the pockets of the politicians and their corporate masters

  • @FPiccioli Money is NOT AVAILABLE for teachers, cops and roads. That's the point. The city is NOT moving. They are claiming to have nothing available for teachers, cops and roads.

Yet they collect billions upon billions.

So WHERE does the money go?

  • @FPiccioli I do appreciate Fire and Police personnel , it's the teachers that fail our country, I have issues with. Thank you for your service.

  • @timytim4prez Remember that when you enjoy the weekend...or a safe work environment...or health benefits....or FMLA...yep...remember that on 9/11 when you remember those UNION brothers who died running into those buildings.
