Borderline Personality Disorder is quite often diagnosed instead of or along with Biploar II.

Criteria:

1. frantic efforts to avoid real or imagined abandonment. Note: Do not include suicidal or self-mutilating behavior covered in Criterion 5.

2. a pattern of unstable and intense interpersonal relationships characterized by alternating between extremes of idealization and devaluation

3. identity disturbance: markedly and persistently unstable self-image or sense of self

4. impulsivity in at least two areas that are potentially self-damaging (e.g., spending, sex, substance abuse, reckless driving, binge eating). Note: Do not include suicidal or self-mutilating behavior covered in Criterion 5.

5. recurrent suicidal behavior, gestures, or threats, or self-mutilating behavior

6. affective instability due to a marked reactivity of mood (e.g., intense episodic dysphoria, irritability, or anxiety usually lasting a few hours and only rarely more than a few days)

7. chronic feelings of emptiness

8. inappropriate, intense anger or difficulty controlling anger (e.g., frequent displays of temper, constant anger, recurrent physical fights)

9. transient, stress-related paranoid ideation or severe dissociative symptoms

  • can someone please expalin what is idealization and devaluation....im trying to figure out if i have BPD i think ive been misdiagnosed with schizophrenia

  • @blackkat77 - BPD is commonly known for the sufferer to have some schizophrenia. I just reralized I hallucinate smells. lol. I mean I knew I did but lived in the city and put the odors down to the wind carrying it along, but here in the country I still smell the food. idealization - you think someone is all good and you put them on a pedestal. devaluation is when they disappoint you and fall from the pedestal

  • Impulsivity is one of my major areas. Just going with what ideas I have at the time without thinking of the cosequences.

  • yes, lol never thinking of the consequences sometimes makes for strange events

  • I love your video's. I have been diagnosed with BPD secondary to very abusive home. I knew i had all the symptoms before I even knew what BPD was. I knew something wasn't right. I didn't think I had the emptey feeling but now that you've explained I realize I do real bad. I have two children and it still comes

  • Its actually not done until the person is over 16 in some places..

  • It's not possible to diagnose someone in their early teens. Is quite rare. Most teens show many borderline behaviors.

  • thank you for the advice x

  • Yes, it does get diagnosed early you are a teen and in teens the mental illness begins to show, as soon as puberty for some and some a little earlier. and some not til their 20's. so I would think if you are having symptoms, tell some one who can help you.

  • Thanks for posting. I really think i may have this but im only 15. it doesnt get diagnosed that early does it?
