Coloratura soprano Anna-Maria Guglielmetti sings Quando Rapita in Estasi
from Lucia di Lammermoor on electric Columbia L1959, recorded in the late 1920s, as were all her discs.

Born c. 1895, Guglielmetti had a short but very successful career in Italian opera houses in the 1920s. During this period, she also appeared in Barcelona, Cairo, Budapest, and in Switzerland. In 1926 and '27 she performed in England. At Covent Garden she sang Marguerite in Les Huguenots. After the sudden loss of her voice, she studied for a time with renowned coloratura soprano Giuseppina Finzi-Magrini (1878-1944), in Turin. She then married and settled in Geneva where she appeared as a guest in lyric roles in the opera house there, around 1930. Afterwards, she taught voice in Geneva.

Anyone have a death date for the soprano?

Guglielmetti was considered a virtuoso coloratura of outstanding brilliance.
Her few recordings , all made for Columbia from around 1925 to 1930, are relative rarities, much sought after by collectors.

  • I found a reference to her death date as 1982. I have a 2-LP set of her operatic and song recordings (Columbia electrics) that was issued probably in the 1970s by O.A.S.I. (OASI #636).

  • @clivsoph Thank you for this informative comment. Much appreciated.

  • About how much would a car like that cost? I don't mean to be nosy, i just want to know if there will ever be any hope of me getting one.

  • @Mr1920s - I have no idea of its value. I paid $300 for it in 1960 for use as a 2nd car for emergencies. It had 12,400 miles on it when purchased. It now has 34,000. As this 1930 Ford cabriolet has never been restored, its value might be something over 10 thousand.

  • So thrilled to hear this. I had weekly lessons from Anna Maria Gugliemetti at the Geneva Conservatoire in 1956/7.

  • @Mr1920s This is a fairly rare version of the Ford Model A--a 1930 Convertible (NOT a roadster; the difference is that a convertible has roll-up windows, rather than snap-in window curtains.) Perfectly restored examples go for about $40-50K these days. I would estimate that this car is worth about half that figure.

  • HOLY HEAVENLY GOD!! I WANT THAT CAR!! (And the Victrola!!)

  • Attractive tone and fluent, brilliant singing. (I also like the car!) Thanks gmmix for posting, and thanks to AE for sharing.

  • Very nice indeed, traffic and all! I love her singing. AOSI had a two-LP collection of her lovely records. Thanks! More!

  • Excellent voice! Brava! Thanks for uploading.
