The disease is "sprawl" and the solution balance of providing alternative transportation choices - freedom! The most responsible and highest economic return is to include rail transit as part of the urban landscape. Public policy is one of the strongest ways in supporting such solutions shifting the waters from our dependence, or our addiction to limited choices of transportation - less freedom. The point is that mass transit makes huge sense in countries pursuit of liberty and happiness.
