@jpcdoran I think I got it. You are talking about the E7 chord shape, right? I was thinking EM. I looked the notes up on advanced chordhouse.

Please tell me why you say that if you want to play the D note as a fifth, it is an E shape, when you go on to playing a Gmaj7? Wouldn't you just say that it's a maj7 shape?

@nvantas I'm playing a GMaj7 chord tone, with a root note on the 6th string, 3rd fret. I'm using an "E-Form" fingering shape to do this. This "E-Form" chord shape carries its 5ths on the second string. In this case, it's the D note on the second string, 3rd fret.
Think about it. No matter where I play this "E-form" on guitar, the note I finger on the second string will be the 5th of the root note I'm fingering on the 6th string.

@jdatnva It's a Hohner HJ5 guitar. I mostly use an Ibanez AG75, though.
