Which ideas regarding punishment after death seem to stem from a concept of God which is more loving, humble, gracious, kind and merciful?

  • BBetter to have never been born than to suffer lifelong conundrum of a headache trying to figure it all out. free will, but don't exercise it; hell seems more likely of and end poi.t due to exercise of human nature. I this is all there is, existence sucks.

  • @beldamrci I would tend to agree with the phrase "life sucks and then we die". The key is to find people who help make it suck a little bit less.

  • could you please link to the clip of the Jewish Rabbi talking about hell. It's facinating.

  • @brendos444 /watch?v=_f37G_WqfOA 12:23 - 13:59 - the clip is as short as what I've included here

  • vg r u familiar with the Orthodox Christian view on hell?

  • @EmGeeDubz I am. Even if Hell is not conceived as God actively punishing people, it remains the idea of unending suffering from which there is no possibility of redemption.

  • Despite their obvious differences, Mark Driscoll and Rabbi Magonet both share the same view that men go into the afterlife largely the way they are in this life. Mark says some go in forgiven of their sins, the Rabbi says people go in and then reflect on their lives. Actually, I think Mark may say some go in forgiven and are then sanctified by God. I think the best God would take Marks position except make it universal.

  • @violentlygraceful Absolutely! I have been able to find many wonderful people like that throughout my life. But I also gave up fear of Hell 16 years ago. Couldn't take it anymore. I felt great! And at the same time, hypocritical. Dad favored Pascal's wager. Mom is total evangelical. Interesting family dynamic, that one.

  • Or, I suppose one can simply choose not to worry about it. live. laugh. love.

  • Zeus will punish these false prophets.

  • @violentlygraceful many Eastern Fathers believed that all would be saved. but according to them the possibility of hell remains because we are free to reject God.
