SAM: I think I almost gave Dad a heart attack. How did your parents take the news?
SHERYLL: Of course they were worried when they heard on the news that we had gotten in a car accident, but I was still asleep when they called, but they're glad I'm ok. But when I told my parents I was getting married, they didn't react the way I thought they would.
SAM: How did you think they were going to react?
SHERYLL: Like your parents. But they were fine with it. They know Joe pretty well and Joe told them that he got a house ready for us, so that kind of eased the tension. And my parents love Joe's parents.
SAM: [Smiling] I just thought of something.
SHERYLL: What?
SAM: We're going to be sisters!
SHERYLL: [Laughing] Oh yeah!
[Sam and Sheryll were still laughing about it when the boys walked up to them]
NICK: What's so funny?
SHERYLL: We're going to be sisters.
[Sheryll hugged Sam]
JOE: Really? So that means...
[Joe turned to Kevin, a surprised look on his face]
JOE: We're going to be brothers!
[Joe hugged Kevin like Sheryll was hugging Sam]
KEVIN: We already are brothers Joe, since we come from the same mom.
[Kevin pushed Joe off]
NICK: So, when are Mom and Dad coming?
KEVIN: They're coming tomorrow like Sam and Sheryll's parents.
JOE: I'm glad I got a big house. There's going to be a lot of us here tomorrow.
SHERYLL: Yeah, we already figured out the sleeping arrangements.
JOE: [Smiling] Do I get to share a room with you?
[She pretended she didn't hear him]
SHERYLL: My parents will sleep in the room on the far right and Sam's parents next to them. Your parents will be in the room next to the suite.
NICK: So do we get the suite?
SAM: [Laughing] No, the girls do.
SHERYLL: Yeah, you guys will fit in the extra bedroom since Frankie is rooming with your parents. And Sam, Sarah and I are going to need all the space to get ready for the actually day.
[It was weird how one name could set Nick's heart stuttering]
NICK: Sarah is coming?
SAM: Uh...well yeah... She's our best friend...
SHERYLL: Nick, are you going to be ok with her around?
NICK: Yeah, I'll be fine.
JOE: Come on. Let's go see if we can taste test some of the food.
[Joe kissed Sheryll on the cheek before he raced Nick to the food tent. Sheryll followed after them, just in case they got overexcited. Kevin and Sam stood among the flowers. They're scent drifted through the large space]
KEVIN: Do I look as nervous as you?
SAM: [Laughing] No. And I'm not nervous, I've just got a lot on my mind right now.
[Kevin lifted an eyebrow, unconvinced]
SAM: Ok, maybe I am a little nervous.
KEVIN: What are you nervous about?
SAM: Well, I haven't seen my parents since I told them over the phone that I'm getting married, and what if things don't go as planned. I really want this to be perfect—
[He knew Sam would ramble on and make herself even more nervous, so he stopped her with a kiss]
SAM: I guess, I'm a little less nervous. But shouldn't you be practicing your bowling skills?
KEVIN: Which one of them told you about our bachelor party?
SAM: [Smiling] It doesn't matter. I think it's cool that you guys are going bowling the night before your wedding.
KEVIN: Yeah, Joe and I didn't want to have a party or anything. We're too hyped up about the actually wedding day.
[Sam pulled out of Kevin's arms, which had wound themselves around her]
SAM: I better help Sheryll with the decorations. I don't want her taking all the credit.
[Kevin smiled and let her go. He was happy he didn't have to be the one to listen to all that fancy talk about dresses and cakes and makeup]
[The rest of the day went by the same way—busy—as the last few preparations were being brought into the house to store for the big day. It wasn't a surprise for any of them when they woke up early the next morning and felt like they hadn't gotten any sleep]
SHERYLL: [Yawning] I hope we get more sleep tonight than we did last night, or we'll be walking down the aisle carrying eye bags.
SAM: Bags...yeah, great... Every girl's favorite accessory.
[They went into the kitchen, and Sheryll took out a second coffee maker. She made 2 batches of coffee cause she knew they had a long day ahead of them—the parents were flying in. Sam soon fell asleep on the counter and Sheryll didn't bother waking her up cause the boys walked in. Kevin spotted Sam laying on the counter and immediately perked up]
KEVIN: You girls didn't get any sleep either?
SHERYLL: It doesn't feel like we did.
JOE: Nick's still out like the baby he is. I barely hit the pillow when my alarm went off.
SHERYLL: Sorry. You're parents are going to be here soon and I don't think they want to see their boys sleeping in.
KEVIN: Yeah, Mom would probably drag us out of bed saying we're too old to be sleeping in.
JOE: So, any ideas for waking Nick up?
KEVIN: Drag his mattress out to the back and dump him in the pool.
[Joe opened his mouth to agree, but the chime of the doorbell cut him off]
I CAN'T BELIEVE IT'S ALL ALMOST OVER!!!
I've loved this story.
Thanks Sheryll!
