I'm pleased with how this worked out, so here's the video. Since I've posted several others alongside this one, I don't feel bad about it!

A rotary switch would have been a nicer choice in terms of size occupied and the amount of wiring required. Everything I could find was either too small, too big (too many switch points) or too expensive. So I did this instead. The big thing here is the way that the switch logic prevents more than one speed tap from ever being energized.

Each switch can energize one tap on the motor. And while it might not be easy to notice in the audio, the fan does change speed.
