@locutus94 I agree with what you say mostly, but whether the views are "politically incorrect" or not, Maher shows himself to be incredibly hypocritical, rude and crass in this clip. He's almost as bad as Fox News anchors when it comes to blatant hypocrisy.

That's not what his show is about. His show allows opinion to be expressed freely. It doesn't say he won't have his feelings on what's being discussed. On the other hand, he openly supports Israel. How can you be Politically Incorrect but yet side with a political agenda? It doesn't add up nor does it make sense. If that's the case, his guest, who are usually reputable individuals with degrees or vast knowledge on specific content matter, would NEVER step foot on his show!

@locutus94 politically incorrect is right. he's not only saying "highly offensive things" but he is demonstrably wrong.

"We were the ones attacked" lol. We have been killing and or terrorizing people in the muslim world since the 50s. Building military bases, overthrowing governments, propping up dictators, bombings, assasinations, etc, etc, etc and we are shocked that a large number of them hate us? How stupid can the people in this country be? Keep throwing rocks at a bees nest and you will eventually get stung, the CIA calls it blowback. Pull your heads out of your asses, fuck with people you get fucked with.

Looking forward to all the angry replies I get for this but, people need to cool their jets. The show is called Politically INCORRECT. The point of the show is for people like Bill Maher to say highly offensive things. And why is he supposed to be unbiased? Unlike Fox Anchors, he doesn't pretend to be a reporter, he's a commentator. He's no harder on Islam that he is on anything else.

You failed to give a single example of a "progressive interpretation" for any of the (of which the Qur'an is full) verses I posted. Why? Because there exists no and cannot exist any such interpretation: The Qur'an is the infallible word of the Muslim god; it does not come with an expiration date. Nowhere does it say "what's written here only applies during the prophet's lifetime". So the only thing "progressive" Muslims can (and do)do is ignore it the way Christians ignore biblical atrocities.

@fctchk You don't have to post the verses, I've read the Qur'an, just as I've read the other holy books, and I understand they were written centuries, or, in some cases, millenniums ago. You cannot apply something that was written in 7th century to the today's world. Apostasy is a very good example - Dawkins keeps insisting that it is a crime and that, according to Islam, apostates are to be executed, despite the progressive Islam that rejects such interpretation as extremist (Al Baqara 256).

“[We] shall let them live awhile, and then shall drag them to the scourge of the Fire. Evil shall be their fate” (2:126). “The East and the West are God’s. He guides whom He will to a straight path” (2:142). “Do not say that those slain in the cause of God are dead. They are alive, but you are not aware of them” (2:154).
Please note I barely started chapter 2. Please do give us a sample of the least conservative and least reactionary (The Reform®) interpretations of these verses.
-
“God is the enemy of the unbelievers” (2:98). “The unbelievers among the People of the Book [Christians and Jews], and the pagans, resent that any blessing should have been sent down to you from your Lord” (2:105). “They shall be held up to shame in this world and sternly punished in the hereafter” (2:114). “Those to whom We [God] have given the Book, and who read it as it ought to be read, truly believe in it; those that deny it shall assuredly be lost” (2:122).

I am quite frankly disgusted at how such morons(the 3 non muslim guests + Bill Maher) can say such fundamentally wrong viewpoints and generalisations of an entire religious group because of a very small minority. Truly disgusting and makes me proud not to live in America and be exposed to this propaganda. I'm a christian by the way.
