With his cutting-edge designs like the chairs Myto and Chair One, German designer Konstantin Grcic has definitely pushed boundaries of what is commonly considered the norm. Meanwhile he is regarded one of the most influential contemporary designers.

With his new armchair Avus for Italian manufacturer Plank, he will most likely polarize again; Grcic used unconventional materials and a technology that is common in the production of luggage. We visited Konstantin Grcic in his studio in Munich and talked to him about the mechanism of mainstream and the avant-garde and the importance of failure.
