  • @waynewin You're assuming that I think we won't have to use oil. I'm not advocating we just stop oil production completely, but we should be doing all we can to switch to more sustainable energy sources. Not only for the climate, but because oil is not an unlimited resource. The energy sector is switching to harder methods of extracting oil (and natural gas) because there's less oil that we can just pump out of the ground.

  • @waynewin Your quote from the Globe and Mail (0.001 of the global greenhouse gas emissions) is a pointless statistic when not contrasted. Does this mean there aren't better ways we should be producing our energy?

And the comparison to the production of other heavy crude oils does not put the tar sands in a favorable light, in my opinion.

  • thanks to you Ms, Klein we will pay $10 a gallon of gas soon .

if we become poor we will have less resources to take care of the environment but is too difficult for you to understand that, how about if we go back to stone age and live with no electricity wouldn't that be the very best for the environment?

  • hmmm so Naomi Klein is for Saudi misogyny and oppression then is she? how is stringing together straw men arguments supposed to debunk the claim that Alberta oil sands are ethical? preaching to the mystics of muscle is she? I do say so.

  • @rodneypopper666 I know how much natural gas is consumed to create the steam to seperate the bitumen from the sands. Do "you" know how much electricity is created by that natural gas as a byproduct of tar sand extraction and is put onto the electricty grid for Alberta? Are you aware that the Suncore and Syncrude oil sand projects create alot of the electricity that is put onto the grid to power your lights, your computer, and your electric car you plug in each night?
