(Click for explanation) Notice of Public Hearing Application for Certification of Completion of Post Closure Care Land and Lakes Wheeling Landfill (in Buffalo Grove).
Trustee Lisa Stone requested a public hearing regarding the closure listed above. The IEPA granted the public hearing, and it was the first hearing on post closure care in the history of Illinois. The IEPA will make their determination on January 15, 2011. Trustee Lisa Stone was recalled from her seat, based upon her "violating" the code of behavior, in that I would not sit silent while the Government Board of Buffalo Grove said the landfill issue was "much ado of nothing," and instead I reached out to higher government for help. The Board said I was acting out of corporate authority, which means I should have gone along with them, the majority. I simply want the testing completed, that was unusually dropped, mid stream, in 2005.

The reason I uploaded this to YouTube, is because the government of Buffalo Grove (with the exception of Trustee Sussman and myself) refused to tape and televise this hearing to their citizens.

The Better Government Association sent the following letter to the government of Buffalo Grove, but the Board would not change their position. They would not tape and air this critical hearing of the IEPA to the citizens on our local government channel, period. They have made 3 DVD's that the 43,000 citizens can take out on loan.

Here is the letter from The Better Government Association:

Dear Buffalo Grove Trustees:

The Better Government Association urges you to reconsider your decision not to record or make public the upcoming IEPA hearing in Buffalo Grove. The video capabilities featured on your webpage indicate a commitment to transparency and openness in public forums; we see no reason you would not extend that same level of transparency to this IEPA hearing.
Government has a vested interest in ensuring taxpayers have access to vital information of public interest and concern. We can think of few greater issues of concern than the upcoming hearinga forum that will address monitoring whether phenol, a known toxin, is polluting the groundwater your citizens rely on.
Ive discussed this with BGA Board members and our Executive Director, Andy Shaw, and this email represents our unanimous feeling about this issue.
Please feel free to contact me via email or phone to discuss this matter at any time.

Sincerely,
Emily Miller
