I like the complexity of RC heli, but I am a bad pilot. The purpose of this project is to built autopilot/flight stabilizer. In this video there is a first try to proof the concept. The board includes sensors (3axes accelerometer and 2 axes gyro) and C8051F410 microcontroller with the firmware, which contains Kalman filter and feedback control. The third (yaw)gyro is stock. This is actually the FIRST try, I hope we will see also the real flight sometime. Everything is on the heli board, the cables and PC are used for parameters reading only.

  • Its a great idea, I would love to see it work in flight, but honestly none of us are born pilots, it takes tons of practice and baby steps.Get a flight simulator and practice every chance you get, eventually your brain becomes the autopilot.

  • Thanks for your advise. Actually I tried the simulator, but I did not find it to be fun for me. I am more enjoying by creating of stuffs, rather then playing. The primary goal was a process of developing and learning of new stuff but not a heli hovering, independently manually or automatically. I am doing some testing of my system now and after muliple crashes I feel I am close to be a pilot already :)

  • seems really cool. but i want to see it work in real flight first :P. have you done all that by your self? frankenstein or something?

  • Thanks. I also want to see it in real flight, but I need to perform additional testing before. Unfortunately I am not a pilot at all and it will be hard to control the flight manually if something goes wrong. Yes, everything done home by myself.

  • where did you get the 3 axis accellerometer & 2 + 1 axis gyro? Where can we get specs on these?

  • thats sick... i kinda wanted something like that so i can mount a camera on it take aerial photos and stuff for like homemade movies... or even to take to skirmish as like aerial spotter... so many useful applications...

  • Hi,

Which software are you using for plotting graphs and what do they represent?

  • Hi, do you have the schematic of the board? And may I know what program is that you're using to monitor the stability?

  • it's only auto gyroscope, not autopilot

  • Good job. It seems very useful to fly beyond reach of your sight.

  • awsome!

  • I did the same thing for a project class this semester. only used a accelerometer (no gyros) so we couldnt get rid of the accelerometer "drift" but it worked out pretty well. got it to fly stably for a good minute.

  • nice work.

  • you are really stupid. even if it does not fly, im sure he gained lots of experience from this study.
