HP tx1000 no boot / black screen / motherboard repair

The HP tx1000 tablet has a defective NVIDIA chip which causes the laptop to get stuck at a black screen and not not boot over time. Conveniently, shortly after the 1yr warantee ends. This video shows how you can fix it

i have the same problem with my tx2. is this always the case, the problem with the GPU? cause I'm thinking of fixing it myself instead of sending it to a shop. may I know what's the compound called? what brand? and is it available on ace hardware or something like that?

I have asus k55v it doesn't boot only power light come on with black screen. Will this technique work?

I bought an Alienware mALX on Ebay that has this same problem. I find it funny how I search "laptop lights on no boot" into Youtube and come across this video. When I saw in the description about the NVIDIA chip (which my computer has) and the overheating problem I'm pretty confident this is what is wrong with mine as well.

I've tried a few other procedures... removing excess electricity, taking out the memory, and I doubt hooking it to another monitor will do anything.
