Labor Protests Across China

Groups of laid-off workers protested against low compensation in many Chinese provinces this week. Rising factory closures have increased concern by Chinese Communist Party leadership over escalating unrest.
More than 50 laid-off workers from a liquor market in the northern city of Harbin gathered in a downtown Beijing office today. The demonstrators held up a white banner and passed out flyers in the building's lobby to protest against jobs and benefits lost during their company's restructuring from a state-owned to a private enterprise.

Rising labor costs, falling export orders and a weak Christmas outlook have forced a growing number of Chinese toy factories to close or lay off workers.

Also this week, yesterday an angry crowd of 500 workers smashed and overturned police cars in front of a major toy company conducting layoffs in Dongguan.

On the same day, a crowd of around 500 people blocked a road outside China's biggest compressor manufacturer in Jingdezhen, Jiangxi province, after the company laid off 300 workers.

The Chinese regime passed a two-year fiscal stimulus package this month, but analysts say the nearly $600 billion will probably not be able to check rising unemployment before next year.

Remember the 2 elderly women in their 70s shown on NBC during the Olympics were sentenced to 1 year in prison for asking the local police for a form to file the protest with the goverment for taking away their homes to build the stadium without compensate them.They were kept among thieves and prostitutes.
