Andy Acton of Bay State speaks about requirements management and how it helps federal agencies stay compliant with federal regulations. Regulations and policies can be consolidated into a database like Telelogic Doors, so it can be used as a central repository for standardization during the software development lifecycle.
[Andy Acton, Bay State]
I'm Andy Acton, with Bay State, we are a federal government reseller of products and services that revolve around enterprise architecture and requirements management.
Technology challenges essentially are: the size in the scope of these organizations, the budgets, the geographically dispersed proximity of all their assets -- it's just cumbersome to implement any sort of change in these organizations.
The main reason the federal government uses system architect is to be compliant within all the federal regulations for purchasing and Clinger-Cohen and enterprise architecture.
Well for a really large federal agency, we've used Telelogic or IBM system Telelogic architect as a repository for the SDLC. There was no repository -- first of all there was no standardization -- now there's a standardization and a repository which is published which everybody has access to via the tool.
And in another large DOD agency, all the laws regulations, policies as it pertains to purchasing, we've consolidated into one Telelogic Doors database and automated the processes for importing the policies, procedures and exported them as well to an HTML web site.
It was Doors being used in a nontraditional approach, Doors traditionally is used for software development lifecycle to go through a whole development project, this is really just a real centralized repository standardization of something which normally couldn't be standardized that we're using the tool that was used for software development to standardize policies and procedures for a federal agency.
