I feel so sad after watching this but I realize it's beautiful. We take for granted the joy that artists give us in hard times.They are kind. As he was to the girl. Because he was unhappy and she was unhappy, he felt the need to make her life better. But once she found herself, he wasn't needed. So he left her to live her life. But he continues on the same way he was before.

like jilijub said, the girl felt unhappy and felt she needed magic to be happy but the magician left, knowing what was best for her and helped her realize magic isnt in little tricks and such, it is in joy- the friends she found. sometimes joy comes at a price (the puppeteer) but once you find yourself that feeling becomes truly magical. the clown realized that he didnt need nor could he fake magic- he needed a friend. So,in a sense this movie is happy and sad but still all the more beautiful :)
