Out of interest do you find high reps help to build strength / explosive power? I favour high reps ..

I don't think rep count is as important as rep speed. if you want explosive power you need to extend (press, in the case of benching) with as much force as possible on each rep. I usually stick to low reps, under 8 per set for most movements.
